Bluegrass University Auditions

We are excited to introduce a brand new addition to our SPARK program - Bluegrass University!

Bluegrass University is an exciting new program designed for middle and high school students eager to dive into the rich tradition of bluegrass music. This weekly, performance-based program offers young musicians the opportunity to learn and play in a band setting, fostering both individual skill and ensemble collaboration.

What Students Can Expect

  • Hands-On Learning: Students will engage with traditional bluegrass instruments such as the fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, guitar, and upright bass, learning through active participation and performance.

  • Band Dynamics: Emphasis is placed on ensemble playing, where students will practice rhythm, harmony, and improvisation, mirroring the collaborative nature of bluegrass bands.

  • Performance Opportunities: The program culminates in live performances, allowing students to showcase their progress and experience the thrill of live bluegrass music.

When: Monday evenings from 7:00- 9:00 PM

Cost: $25 Registration, $130 per month

How: Sign up for a placement audition on August 4, 2025.

Please prepare a song or partial song on the instrument of your choice - fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, or upright bass.

Beetlejuice JR Auditions

Ages 8-18. All participants must be in high school or below.

Everyone auditioning must fill out the form linked above.

Please choose a time slot on the audition form, and prepare a 16 bar cut of a song in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided, so please bring sheet music. If you need help finding sheet music, MusicNotes.com is a great resource. There will also be a dance call so please dress comfortably for movement.

Callbacks will be held August 7th at 6:00 PM.

Show Dates: October 3-5 and 10-12, 2025. School matinees during the daytime will be October 2nd. Rehearsal times will likely be Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6-9 PM and Sunday afternoons 1-4 PM. No one will be allowed to miss tech rehearsals or performances.

If cast, there is a suggested production fee of $85.

Rock University Auditions

Auditions will be held Monday, August 11, 2025. Please prepare a short song of your choosing for auditions. If selected, information will be sent to you on how to sign up for the class. 

*PLEASE NOTE: Previous Rock University students DO NOT need to re-audition.*

ROCK UNIVERSITY is dedicated to enriching lives through performance-based music education. We will develop music creativity and proficiency within a culture of belonging, collaboration and community. Classic Rock music, using multiple teachers, will be the foundation of instruction. Group lessons and private instruction will be the basis of learning along with the development of a knowledge of reading music and understanding music theory.

Audition only. Ages 11-18. (Electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, drums and vocals). Class will culminate in full band performance. January to May. $130 per month. Teaching Artist: Steve Crosby, Justin Garza, and Guests

There will be multiple sections of Rock University, and your spot will be depending on placement.

It's our show now, kid. The ghost-with-the-most comes to the stage in Beetlejuice JR., the frightfully funny musical based on the beloved motion picture turned Broadway phenomenon. Lydia Deetz is a strange and unusual teenager, still grieving the loss of her mother and obsessed with the whole “being dead thing.” Lucky for Lydia, she and her father move to a new house haunted by a recently deceased couple and Beetlejuice, a delightful demon with a real zest for life. When Lydia calls on Beetlejuice to scare away anyone with a pulse, this double-crossing specter shows his true stripes, unleashing a (Nether)world of pandemonium.

9 to 5 The Musical, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, is based on the seminal 1980 hit movie. Set in the late 1970s, this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic.

Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains "otherwise engaged," the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Hey, a girl can scheme, can't she?

Your whole family will enjoy this jingle-belling, tinsel-coated variety show, with acts including the vocal ensemble Guarded Heart, the Bluegrass band the Rooster Scooters, the Mexican dance troupe Tradiciones de mi Tierra, Leeds's own Rock University, cloggers, tappers, mischievous elves, and more. There will even be some holly-jolly good signature cocktails for anyone wanting to keep "spirits" bright!

Everyone auditioning must fill out the form at the link above. Please read the following carefully.

Who: There are roles for students and adults. Performers must be 14 or older by December 8, 2024.   The cast size, and which actors portray multiple roles, will be determined after auditions.

Prepare: A 16 bar cut of a song in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided, so please bring sheet music. If you need help finding sheet music, MusicNotes.com is a great resource. 


Bring: Headshot and resume are encouraged. 

Wear: Dress comfortably in clothes that show your ability to move. You will be very active dancing, running, jumping, and potentially crawling on the floor. 

Auditions: Sunday, December 8 from 1:00 to 5:30 PM and Monday, December 9 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. (Choose which you attend when you register)

Callbacks: Tuesday Dec. 10 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. You must attend all three hours if called back.

Rehearsals: Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday and Sunday afternoons from February 17 to May 1. Some Monday and Wednesday evenings will be scheduled depending on space (and actor) availability from March 3 through May 1.

Technical Rehearsals: begin April 25th. Everyone must attend every tech rehearsal.

Performance Dates: May 2-4, 9-11, and 16-18, 2025.

Creative Team:  Vivian Snipes is directing with musical direction by Steve Crosby;  fight choreography by Nick Vannoy; and a choreographer yet to be determined. Enjoy an evening of choral music, barbershop quartets, and comedy at the eighth annual Chords for Clark concert, a benefit show for the choirs of George Rogers Clark High School. The show will feature the GRC Cardinal Singers and the renowned men’s barbershop group, The Kentuckians Chorus.

All proceeds benefit Clark County’s choral program. Your attendance will help pay for accompanists, uniforms, workshop and audition fees, clinicians, transportation, and sheet music.

Book Club Happy Hour

On Monday, September 30, 2024, Leeds Center for the Arts will introduce Winchester to its first-ever “Book Club Happy Hour” at The Hall Coffee & Social Club. The occasion will serve two purposes: introduce Clark County audiences to an impressive slate of regional authors (all published by Rabbit House Press), and to celebrate the centennial of legendary writer and wit Truman Capote, born on that day in 1924. Admission is free, and a portion of food, drink, and book sales will go to Leeds.

The event will combine some mixing and mingling with the area’s bibliophiles and bookworms along with readings from the featured authors, including: Robby Henson (Loud Water), Mike Wilson (Arranging Deckchairs on the Titanic), Elizabeth Beck (Dancing on the Page), Kyle Alvey (On Low Gap Road), Kevin Lane Dearinger (Bad Sex in Kentucky), and Rabbit House Publisher Erin Chandler, who will be reading from her latest book Bluegrass Sons: A True Crime Memoir.

The “Book Club Happy Hour” will begin at 6:30 PM with unique signature cocktails and a chance to meet the authors, followed by brief readings from the featured works, and concluding with discussion about the books and signings with the authors.

Join us for the culmination of eight weeks of a special partnership between the Leeds Youth Board and STRIDE. Students have worked together to create their own unique piece of theatre based on the popular children's book "Not A Box."

We hope you'll join us for this very special evening celebrating the magic of theatre and the profound impact of art in bringing people together.

The Leeds Youth Board consists of high school student leaders from the greater Winchester area. They work to enhance the greater community through arts-based projects, while strengthening their artistic and leadership skills.

STRIDE, which stands for Supporting Therapeutic Recreation for Individuals with Disabilities Everyday, began in 2000. Therapeutic recreation has been used as a way to offer more experiences to individuals with disabilities. STRIDE serves individuals that have a learning or developmental disability and who might also have a physical disability. Legally Blonde Auditions

Ages 15 and up. You must be 15 or older by the audition date.  

Everyone auditioning must register at the link above. Bringing a headshot and resume are encouraged.
Please choose a time slot on the audition form, and prepare a 16 bar cut of a song in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided, so please bring sheet music. If you need help finding sheet music, MusicNotes.com is a great resource. There will also be dance call.

Callbacks will be held Monday, May 13th at 6:00 PM.

Show Dates: August 9-11, 16-18, and 23-25, 2024. Rehearsal times will typically be Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons from June to August.

This show will be co- directed by Steve Crosby and Ellie Miller. 


Elle Woods

The quintessential Valley Girl who follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School and realizes that she has more to offer than just a pretty face and a bubbly personality.

Emmett Forrest

A smart and sensitive law student who takes Elle under his wing. He is charming, quirky, loveable, and friendly.

Paulette

A brash, caring, optimistic hair stylist who is friends with Elle and longs to find a man for herself.

Professor Callahan

A pompous, sleezy and manipulative law professor at Harvard who is highly successful, but completely immoral.

Warner Huntington III

A good-looking but shallow and pompous guy who breaks Elle's heart and heads off to Harvard Law.

Vivienne Kensington

A smart, savvy, and uptight law student and Warner's fiancee who initially dismisses Elle, but grows to be her friend.

Brooke Wyndam

An exercise video mogul who is also a former sorority girl. She is energetic and charismatic, yet currently on trial for murder.
